I was in Tokyo for Christmas, and found out Christmas Eve that a friend had died 3 months previous. I made sure to shinkansen over to Osaka to pay my respects to her family, of course, but I was beating myself up for not being there for the funeral. Now my conscience can rest easy. I can't handle funerals very well in the best of circumstances; I would have thrown up had I gone to that one.
My grandma finally succumbed to Alzheimer's last week, and I'm being totally selfish when I say, I'm glad I can't fly home for the funeral.

| Honestly, I was shocked beyond belief and grossed out, to say the least. Most people queued up to place a piece in the urn but not everyone. I did but only because I was beside myself and unable to think. |
