It depends on the kind of life you want, I suppose, but you can support a family on an EFL salary in Ecuador. No Delta required. I know quite a few people who are doing it.

But if your spouse can work, it's a help.

Best,
Justin

Let's be honest. How long does it take to get a DELTA? 3 Months? What do you expect?

Lets be honest it takes 2 months full time.

My masters would have taken 1 year full time but it took me longer as I did it by distance learning.

So you have a Masters? What the hell are you whining about? And if TEFL sucks why not choose something else? Unless of course everything sucks and whining is your forte.

If you have a masters, then why are you asking the question based on a DELTA? Do you consider the DELTA to be of more value than your masters?

You realize you posted this 7 minutes after your original thread?

Getting a job to sustain a family while doing TEFL --- I would probably reccomend South Korea, I've heard a lot of good things about working there and banking a nice savings every month.

I disagree. To bank "nice" money in South Korea you must work like a slave. What will his children do? He would have to send them to an international school, which would cost about 75% of what he will earn in the year. Even if your children are babies I wouldn't recommend this because you will have no time to spend with them.

Some will argue that this is a good thing and I overlooked the issue of kids, my apologies.

Thrifty, me old mate, am I allowed to comment on this thread? Or will you call me a bare faced liar about how much you can earn/save in Turkey?

Dear old cynical, pessimistic "thrifty/31/Mark Loyd" has a (distance) master's degree. Do you think he'll tell us what field it's in and whether he's actually used it?

I don't see the harm in revealing your qualifications. I usually suspect the validity of qualifications unless people come clean. Ask me and I'll tell you. I'm no coward.

thrifty,
You have given us practically zero information to go on. Help us to help you.

What is your educational background?
What is your experience?
What do you hope to teach?
How old are your children?
Does your spouse plan to teach or work in some other capacity? What is his/her background?

Thailand!

A typical starting salary is 30,000 to 35,000 baht per month and that is enough for an ok lifestyle outside of the Bangkok. I know many teachers who are making ends meet with families in LOS.

China!

I have heard of some families making it there. I guess it all depends on the school.
