I'm a big fan og the Hong Kong in Gumussuyu just off Taksim Square. Good food and reasonably priced. For Japanese there's a new place in old Bar Madrid street(1st left going down Istiklal) called Tokyo. You won't meet thrifty there though as it is quite pricey(like all the Japanese places)
For clubs check out Nexus in Tunel. plug plug plug my mates run it

Pano is a good place for grown-ups to get hooched before hitting the clubs. It's across the street from the blown-up British Consulate.

I don't know. I drink wine. Last I was there, wine was 10-12YTL for a bottle.

For a small or regular bottle? At Viktor Levy's I think it's 15 for the house wine which is actually drinkable.

(5 more hours to go... maybe the kids wont notice if I slip out early for meze and şarap...)

Yaramaz is probably right-- I haven't been there in a few months, and since I got a husband, I don't usually pay anymore.

Still, a 15 YTL bottle of wine is still a good deal for getting hooched!

And their mezes are lovely...

If they're around on Friday, Freezepop are playing Balans (next to James Joyce), food and drink wise I recommend they get over to Kadikoy and spend a bit of time in Mercan having a kokore and a beer. Best restaurant in Istanbul.

I was there a couple of weeks ago and I didn't see it advertised, so I am not sure if they still do it.

There is also a new Indian place on Akyol in Cihangir. So if are in to a Ruby, I recommend it.

Balo sokak, down Istiklal, on the right hand side, before the GS lise. Note the 8ytl pricetag for the beers at the JJ. As we all know, TEFLers cant possibly afford this.
