With dependant visa status you have to show that you haven't been out of HK for more than 3 months (I think). So Immigration Dept doesn't recognise you as a resident and you only get a 3 year visa at this stage.

What about if you get a NET job, I mean, could you apply for a housing allowance when you are a dependant?

Hello,

Hong Kong Dependant's Visa 3 years

The sponsorer is a local HK permanent resident.

Do I qualify for NET perks (rent, baggage, flight ticket reimbursement)?

Ok, checked things out. My friend said this.....he is married to an HK permanent resident, but he has chosen to work on a work visa, sponsored by the school. He DOES get the housing allowance. He was not sure if he would get it if he was on a dependent visa.

Hope that helps.

It helps.

I wonder why he did it that way, was it to qualify for the perks? Does it mean that he won't qualify for the permanent resident visa?

there is no permanent resident visa. and i would say you wouldn't qualify for the perks of a NET position if you were already here on a dependant visa. as the perks are for those that do not normally reside in hong kong. and as a dependant you are already residing in hong kong.

I think the rule is that you have to show that HK is not your permanent home. So even on a dependants visa it may be possible.
