So why did you start the topic, then?
I don't want a partner either. |

Thrifty, why not try BAE/SDT in Saudi Arabia? They pay around 4000 a month tax-free plus a lot of other benefits. 5 years of that and surely you'd be a new, more positive man.
With your qualifications and experience you'd have a great chance getting accepted there. |
No, it is 3800 and falling fast. |

To everyone on this thread besides thrifty:
Why don't we just leave this guy to cry himself to sleep in his pillow tonight? There are more productive threads. |

You are one of those armachair bodybuilders. You have no realistic business idea and will continue to TEFL. No need to reply but you will anyway. |

"TEFL in Europe is apallingly paid.
The teacher shortage will be for real teachers not TEFLers."
Christ on a bike, how can a single person be so negative??? You have a negative comment on all the answers people give you. Every help/advice people offer or give you, you turn it down with another negative comment.
I'd rather say you are in need of some serious counseling to overcome your negative attitude.
Your posts sound like you are not willing to invest anything but want everything served to you on a silver plate.
Your advice/help was worthless. TEFL qualifications like mine do not transfer to state sector jobs that pay enough to make a living.
You are not in TEFL and so do not understand.
If you think you are right send me the link or job ad.
I can prove. If you are interested in getting certified for teaching in schools in the Netherlands, PM me and I will send you the contact email adresses of the universities.
Although I am not into TEFL I am still into teaching languages, in fact I do teach my mother tongue and the basic situation is quite the same. E.g. I do face the same problems than many TEFL'ers. |

Prof
You are not quite in the same boat. You work in the state system-you have unions, good pay and conditions and legality.
TEFL has none. |

Wrong.
The field of "Teaching English As a Foreign Language" has all these things. Don't know why you haven't obtained them yourself, but I guess that's your individual problem and situation. It's up to you to pursue the conditions you want for yourself. |

Sorry Thrifty, but what are you actually doing in Turkey?
I've been living here for several years and I've always made good money (more than I would ever make at home). I own an apartment that is paid for and I've got some money in the bank.
Living in Turkey has enabled me to chase my dreams and to travel.
Open your eyes and get back to reality. Turkey is the land of opportunity and the pot of gold is waiting for you. |

Thrifty,
Have you ever considered China ? On this forum, there is a recent thread from "Malsol" in which he mentions that he has been offered a v.good salary to work as a DOS. Apart from that particular job, outfits such as E.F. are always on the lookout for people who have a DELTA + several years of experience.
In China, you would also be well qualified to teach at the uni or high/middle school level. A uni teacher with your qualifications and experience should be able to command at least 6 K. RMB per month, for only 12-16 hours per week. With so much spare time, you would have ample opportunities to do privates - probably enough to net you another 5 K. (at least) per month. With many jobs in China, you are provided with airfare reimbursement, a rent-free flat and free utilities. As the cost of living, here, is pretty low , you would be able to save the bulk of your salary/other earnings.
Apart from the mainland, have you ever considered HK's NET scheme ? Although preference is usually given for those who have completed a PGCE/ Grad.Dip.Ed./B.Ed., they still might consider you because of your work experience. It'll be worth checking up on.
I recall reading somewhere that you are a UK citizen. Thus, it might be possible for you to do a PGCE course without any charge. Check up on it. Apart from HK's NET scheme, a PGCE could help you to land other lucrative jobs, eg in the international school sector or with Brunei's Education Department.
Regards,
Peter |
