What are the chances of finding work in the Middle East, preferably the UAE, for a person who has a BA and a TESOL certificate (100 hour cert), no formal ESOL teaching experience but a lot of informal ESL tutoring as well as workplace training, 19 years living and substantial education in an English speaking country but originally from the Middle East (many years living there, no cultural shock to get over).
Honestly, what could be found? |

As you are aware, your education and experience would be very limiting. In the Gulf, you would have a difficult time getting a job with a foreign hire contract and benefits. You are pretty much restricted to language schools which tend to manage with part timers who are already there with spouses or whatever. And what with the high cost of living, I don't see it as a workable option.
You may be better off in the Levant or North Africa where the cost of living is cheaper and it is easier to supplement your income with private lessons.

VS is correct. As for making a living through tutoring and part time work, without a sponsor, you can't remain in the Gulf countries. |

Don't give up yet chiquitita. What everyone has told you here is true, but you may want to apply with various government bodies who have their own English programs. They tend to prefer teachers with M.E. background, but the salaries there are not much more than what private schools offer. To find a job with them you'd have to contact them personally though as they don't advertise much. It'd be an excuse to visit this place. Good luck. |
