neither one of you have met the owner. he is a good person, although i don't agree with everything he decides. in fact, it's a partnership, a very successful one.
ugur, i think you show something about yourself in that you left your contract just before the end of the school year. what about your students? Doga is not so incredibly bad, surely. |

I assume you dont really understand what is happening at Doga Molly. Turkish teachers work Monday thru Saturday from 8:30 until 6. Most of them do not get home until 7:30 or 8 and they leave home at 6 or 7. They also go to shopping malls from 6 to 12 hours several times a month to get telephone numbers from parents for the sales people.
The conditions of employment are against the traditions of Turkish education and undermine accepted Turkish values. The school is operating with no education system and is completely outside of the normal education sector.
Most of the teachers are women. Once at home, these women must cook and clean and take care of their children and husbands. These women suffer under two patriarchal men!
I come from a liberal, once egalitarian, Islamic region where women and labor are treated with respect. I had to ask myself, am I a collaborator or humanist?
Are you a collaborator or a humanist, or just an apologist Molly? |

There are opptions to your contracts , leave and be bitter or payback. İt is great that these forums are here but most sit and gripe about their
contracts and conditions. A contract is a leagal document.you have rights both here and in the EC. Why not use them ? Talk to a lawyer, go to a noteier(sp) log a complant against the school . most if not all ,teachers just leave and moan later .most teachers here illeagaly work the schools know this and give excusses about permits and time frames ,which are riddiculas. There is not a school in Turkey which wants to be in a court room explaining their why and why nots to a judge. should the inspectors arrive a little envolope is given to them.A gift for the family .supplement to the poor sallary? bride? maybe .
Teachers do not use the sytem .they leave and another walks into the same conditions.TİME TO STOP. |

You are right. It would be good if foreign teachers sued their employers for breach of contract. However, as you point out, most foreign teachers are not legally employed and so there is nothing legal binding the two parties and, subsequently, no legal cause on which to bring an action in a court of law. Besides, even if a teacher is legal, the cost of bringing a suit against an employer is probably not within their means.
In any event, forums like this are a great service to teachers. Teachers can warn others about the employment practices of employers so that other teachers can make informed decisions when considering accepting or rejecting an offer of employment.
I have written about the unprofessional and unethical work conditions at English Time, Doga Schools and Interlang in Istanbul, Turkey. I am not trying to discourage someone from working for any of them, I am just letting people know what to expect. |

Yet in here, one could say that a language school "was 31ed" and most people would know what that meant... |
