I know there's a men's thread but the world cup is special, so it deserves its own thread.
Let's start with a simple question. Who thinks that Brazil won't win?
and a more complicated question.
What excuses will Engerland come up with? Twisted Evil

I remember watching Scotland vs. Brazil, the opening match of the '98 world cup, in the now-defunct Selvi Birahanesi (aka The Old Man's Pub) in Bakirkoy. This was a spectacularly minging bar, yellow as a rotten smoker's lung, with sawdust on the floor and the smell of toilets, stale efes, raki, smoke, greasy chairs and heavily fried things heavy in the air. there was a group of us, including two scots guys, who had decided to go all Braveheart - blue facepaint, bonnets, flags and kilts! the kilts freaked the locals out a bit. anyway, the match began, and of course, Brazil scored, to massive cheers from the Turks. then they scored again, to even bigger cheers, after which the scottish guys felt it incumbent upon them to invite everyone outside for a vigorous and frank exchange of views, i.e. 'Kam oan then, ye wee c**ts, we'll tak' ye all oan!'.
there was a point where I began to wonder whether we'd walk out alive.

I'll put money on Wayne Rooney (if he plays) or the magnificant Gerrard getting a red card 10 minutes in to the second half against the Argy Bargies in a semi final, the Argies equalising and Eng-er-land going out out on penalties.

I'll also put money on scotland not scoring a single goal and bigbadsuzzie complaining about this thread.

I won't be watching a single match as Scotland aren't in it so it's became a wee bit pointless for me. I hope that England get the hammering they deserve though. How can they honestly think they have a chance? I'd like to see Iraq or Afghanistan winning it but they aren't in it either so stuff it.

A fine example of collocation.

Come on mate. Get in the spirit of things. If you are Scottish then you are born with two football genes. One supports Scotland and the other supports whoever England are playing. I have developed a strange Sweedish/paraguan/trinidadian accent Confused

Don't tell me. rooney owns a Highland terrier? Gerrard's grandfather is from the Isle of whithorn? Callagher grew up on the Copland Road? and Beckham wore a kilt... once.
seriously, looks like Germany and England will meet in the first stage of the knockout rounds. Sorry hmaf and fellow Scots.... but I would support England against Germany....... Argentina is a different story Twisted Evil

Does anyone know how much TV companies around the world are forcing their loyal, fee-paying, viewing public to cough-up to watch this celebration of international interaction and co-operation ...

In the Gulf, ART want an extra 1,000 Dirhams (~ $300) from their current subscribers ... and god knows how much from new customers ...

You could go to Germany for that ... thieving ba!t&r*ds ...

I love rubbing it in the faces of my in laws and esp my fiance that Turkey aren't in it and that they got knocked out by that mighty footballing nation of Switzerland, better be careful though, if i push it too far i could find myself sleeping with the street cats. My money's on Brazil or Argentina, England had a chance with Rooney, even if he makes it I doubt he'll be 100% fit, so I reckon they'll be out in quarters at best semi's. Can u imagine if Turkey were in it and won a few games?, there'd be no sleep at nights.

It's not too late to support "Scotland" at the world Cup. Smile

Some Portuguese football player said today, that the favorite where the Brazillians, next the Germans but Portugal will also have a chance!

I'll still support the Germans and hope I don't have to hide or be asshamed cause they get kicked out in the first round.
