Lots and lots of stray mangy cats, a few dogs too, no cyclists on the road( all been killed i bet) u gotta arselick to survive in the work place, another strange 1, i go jogging in my local park and i'm nearly always the only one who is actually jogging, everyone else is just walking round the park ( and the rude buggers never move out the way when they see u running towards them on the same path ). More observations to follow. Anything else i should look out for or expect?

they r not just on a stroll, most if not all have their tracksuits and trainers on but seem to being doing some kind of power walking thing but at not a great pace. WEIRD I TELL YA

Do any of you guys have those days when you seem to be unable to speak or for that matter write in English?....I think l might go home very soon and speak in tongues to myself there. Maybe it is just the whole end of contract thing getting to me......Me needs beach and cocktails!!!!!

Just had a horrible experience. Had an interview at Fartih (think that's how u spell it) uni. Due to a break down in communication i wasn't fully sure what to expect and thought it was probably a normal interview. I arrived at the uni (mother in law in tow) and was told to go to a room. I walked in an sitting behind a large desk were 4 men and a woman, all stern looking and not very friendly looking at all. I was told that they would be students and i had to teach them an English lesson of 20 mins, 3 of them couln't speak any English!. It was something like pop idol or the X factor or that dans rubbish ( which goes on for hours and my young sister in law loves) where u have to perform in front of a panel of judges. Never have i thought so fast on my feet and i thank god for all those un prepared lessons where i blagged/winged a lesson. Anyone else experienced something like this whilst job hunting?

Having a bit of fun at the moment but i'm sure it wont last long as i'll end up in the local hospital ( if i'm lucky). My sister in law gave me use of her scooter which she no longer uses. It was pretty easy to learn ( never ridden 1 b4) and i got the hang of it pretty easily. Now me and my fiance are expolring Istanbul on 2 wheels . What with the pot holes, dogs sleeping in the road, crappy drivers who just dont know what the indicator is for, i'm confident i could give evil kenivel a run for his money ( i'll probably end up like him) Even though i got my fiance screaming at me on the back swearing she will never get on this bloody thing again, i'm enjoying it. So if you dont hear from me for a while, u know 1 of those hazards i mentioned got me.

Trial teaching that way is a great big joke and total waste of time. I have been on both side as the performer and the observer. In no way does it ever even remotely resemble a real lesson. I hated everything about them, but it's a hoop they love to throw up at you in Asia as well.

My trial teaching was probably worse than any I have ever witnessed, (same situation as yours, but mine were sour-looking Chinese),and I went on to hold a management position there. (I was offered DOS but turned it down due to crappy pay and package.) It all means nothing.

Don't fret about it, get out and enjoy the sunny spring/summer weather and have some fun. Don't get killed!

Last year my wife got all excited about the Eur-asia marathon, the race that starts in Uskudar (or something) and over the bridge into Taksim. There's a 10k version (no marathoners us), and she trained for it over few weeks. Get to the run on Saturday AM and throngs of other folks registered for the 10k and they barely jog... wife can't keep a pace trying to dodge people... get to the Bosphorus Bridge.. and... PEOPLE STOP FOR TEA! That's right, track suits with paper numbers and all WITH THERMOSES OF TEA! And Cigarettes! Smoking and drinking teas in the middle of a 10k!!

If people will insist on doing a marathon ... that seems the way to do it ... an old teyze doing quite naturally what a pop-art New Yorker would love to think of doing ...
