which is better?

7,000 for 18 periods or 10,000 for 15 periods plus 10 hrs office time and one hour English Corner

This whole salary debate is ludicrous. Let's make a list of the relevant factors that need to be considered. (Feel free to add your own) To really judge how good your job is, rate them one by one.

The Factor List:

Hours
Wage/Salary

*Versus the Local Cost of Living
Working Environment
Prep Time
Grading
Resources
Stable Schedule
Travel Time
Travel Expense

Extra Duties
*Office Hours
*English Corner
*Marketing Promotions

Benefits
*Health Insurance
*Airfare Reimbursement
*Housing
**Quality of Housing
**Monthly Bills
*Paid Vacation

All factors are equal except the salary for hours.

If any of the other variables were significant I would have mentioned them.

its well known that if one wants to make good money in esl, you should either be in japan or somewhere in the midle east. china isnt the place to make serious money. people come to china for other reasons. i agree with paul, people here have an obsession with discussing salaries.....

Which is great for making comparisons in a vacuum. My point being that those other variables are always significant.

The way I see it, an hour of prep for a two hour class that includes an hour of travel and an hour of grading is 5 hours of work.
