I know the Asahi Super-dry in Canada is made in Thailand... and it doesn't taste as good (or even the same really). I remember visiting Thailand last year and was happy when I found Asahi beer there (I can't stand that awful Chang or Singha stuff...), but it tasted quite different and after I found out was brewed locally. Actually I think you can only get real Japanese beer in Japan, not sure why.

They all taste pretty much the same... light, bubbly and golden. Down a pint of Kilkenny or Guiness and then realize that there ARE great beers out there...but not the mainstream Japanese ones.

How many ways can you repackage them to appeal to consumers....?

German taste...champagne hops....European taste....Fresh clean taste....

...er...its the same yellow water!

Go for one called GINGA KOGEN. Its the king amongst peasants.... There is also one called KOGARU KISS which is delicious...

It's actually a pretty common practice. They brew Heineken in Canada for the Canadian market along with other "import" beers etc. There are many good beers around the world, and there are quite a few in Japan.
