I went for my NOVA interview yesterday. I think it went reasonably well (thanks to the people here for posting information about the process; it did help) and I do know they called my references (as my old boss called me to let me know he'd been called). So now I hope to hear back in a positive manner.

Once I hear back I'll post lots of details about the interviews. I don't want to post too much information just now on the off chance they read they figure out who I am and flush my application.

That said: Interesting tidbit. We hear on and on about NOVA doesn't hire without a degree? Well guess what. In my group there were a couple people without degrees. They were being considered for flexi-schedule positions and would be responsible for getting their WHM visa themselves. Other than that, no problem.

Oh, and there were no questions about my marital status or kids. However, I could tell they assume you are either single or applying with your partner and childfree. Like when they told us all to make sure to apply for Canadian non-residency. They made it sound sooo easy and I thought "well, yes... if you don't have children or a spouse." But didn't say it.

Thanks for all the help pre-interview!

WHM? I suspect you mean WHV. Simple typo, probably.

People without degrees DO get hired at NOVA. Many of us don't say otherwise, and in fact state the very situation you've described. The problem lies with degree-less Americans because they can't get the WHV.

I think this question was more for dealing with Canadian taxes, not with whether you are coming with a spouse or not. They will more likely assume you are coming alone, not that you are applying with a partner and are childless.

Working Holiday Maker is the technical term for it. Is it commonly abbreviated as WHV?

True, they can't get it. However I do know a lot of Canadians who think Nova won't hire them without a degree so I thought I'd throw it out there since people often mention it.

In order to declare non-residency, you can not have a spouse or children in Canada. So in telling us to do so, they are assuming you have no one to bring.

Have never heard of it referred to as a WHM visa. Just working holiday visa, or WHV.

The visa is WHV, the person who has that visa is a working holiday maker, WHM. That's what I remember seeing in the literature when I was researching mine.
