Alrighty people

My name is jen and im from bonny Scotland! im a few weeks from graduation day (studying fine arts) and am planning on moving to spain to live with my spanish boyfriend in Salamanca, as from the 15th July.

I have been accepted for Cambridge CELTA course in Madrid the course would be great for me in terms of finding long-term stable employment and could allow me to pursue my art on the side.

I must admit, I do have my doubts about the course as, initially, I want to go to Spain with the priority of settling myself into my new surroundings, learning Spanish fluently (I barely know any Spanish), find some sort of employment to get by and most importantly enjoy life so for these reason Im not sure CELTA is an ideal GAP year option.or is anyone wanting to convince me otherwise?

1. Is there anyone out there that has completed the course and could give me any feed back on it?

2. The CELTA course seems extremely intensive and costs a lot of money for a four-week course is worth it for someone who might just be taking the course for a GAP year?

3. Does anyone know of any alternative way I could earn money (preferably in Salamanca) - baring in mind that my Spanish is very limited at the moment?

4. Does anyone know of any good places, clubs or organisations to get myself involved in that would allow me to meet people in a similar situation to myself?

5. Okey cokey, soooooooooo if ANYONE can answer ANY of my questions or give me ANY advice that might help me on my new adventure please SPEAK-UP because I am desperately desperate!!!!!!

Cheers!!

Xx jen xx

Hi Jen:

I think the CELTA is an excellent gap-year option. I did my course through Trinity (a CELTA equivalent) and yes, they are intensive and cost a good bit of money. If you're planning on teaching in Spain, you'll either of those TESOL cert courses A)to get experience in the classroom B) to land a job in Spain. You'll be glad you did the course-a great way to meet others landing in Spain for the first time, too.

quote: "long-term stable employment"- TEFL and stable employment are things which don't always go hand-in-hand when teaching in Spain! A good recognized qualification like a Cambridge tefl certificate will help though Very Happy
