No. Having lived with my Turkish in-laws for more than 2 years now and having seen how locals live, I have to say that life here is more diffficult than in Canada. I didn't know Turkey AT ALL when I lived in my TEFL bubble in Istanbul. Both my husband and I want our child to grow up in Canada. I am also dead tired of "looking over my shoulder", I mean having to be extra careful that things are safe and that I don't get clipped by a car while crossing the street. I think about earth quakes and beggars upset me....yeah, enough Tekirdag, close ya trap, girl...
Anyways, honestly? I am treading water(which sucks) until the husband is finished his masters. Then it is WHOOOSH to Canada. |

If my health and finances don't demand otherwise ... it's not an impossibility ...
Tekirdag, will you be taking your in-laws with you ...
... surely living with anyone for two years would drive you nuts wherever you were .. |

I'm quite happy, thankyouverymuch.
We're not renting, I've a good job (I'm not teaching) and a few other side projects. I like Istanbul as a place, and new cheap airlines will enable me to visit home more often. We might go somewhere else for a bit of an adventure, but I reckon my base will always be the 'bul. |

Istanbul is too damn big and completely overgrown its infrastructure, especially regarding transportation.
Then the whole Ataturk-brainwash thing just gets to me after three years. |

I loved Istanbul when I lived and worked there. External factors forced me to leave, and I miss it loads, but I know I'll never return as a TEFL teacher. A different life, a different world, a different career. I already look forward to some holidays there, though... |

Transport is a bitch, but getting the ferry is always nice. I haven't noticed the Ataturk thing being too bad. |

The ataturk thing in Istanbul is nothing compared to the obsession in the boonies-- in central anatolia he was everywhere. It was like the bloody wizard of oz! |
