When does the university term start in Vietnam? Is it in June like in Thailand or September like the west?
Does anyone have any comments good or bad about teaching at univerisities in terms of hours, class size, salary, benefits, etc.? |

And, um, when you answer sigmond's very interesting question (which, by the way, was on my questin list as well) could you pop over to my post and give me a bit of a run down of any answers you might know?
Sorry, sigmond, if I got your hopes up by replying with such a response, but like you I'm just trying to plan my future with as much information as I can gather.
PS there was quite the alarming post on the job informatin journal (the one in all caps - you couldn't miss it.) Is that just some guy letting off steam (doesn't sound at all like the limited picture I have so far) or is there any/some/a lot of basis in this?
Once again, sigmond, a trillion apologies for the hijack, but I think we could both benefit from some answers, no? |

Five weeks later, and no answers. I too am thinking about universities in Vietnam. Doesn't anyone out there have anything to tell? |

Singularly unhelpful post, that. I would say he is a bit of a crank, even if he did get a contract at an international school. Reading between the lines, it sounds to me that he was competing for work in Ho Chi Minh with younger men or women, and he was losing. As he came to terms with the reality of the market (ie schools recruit mainly for appearance, given a modicum of experience and qualification) he realized he didn't have much of a chance.
So he applied for a job where he DID have a chance and they were looking for someone who fit his profile (ie older, experienced, perhaps higher quals.) It was a painful process for him, obviously, hence the garbled cry of pain in capital letters. Ah, another lesson learned by a teacher! |

Hello.
Iam teaching at a universtiy in Vietnam, but am with a canadian NGO who sponsors me. All of the teachers at our school are with such foreign organizations. Hours are low (about fifteen 45 minute units), classes are big, about 50-60 heads. and classes start late august early september. I think you would have a hard time getting hired directly by a school, though i am not certain about this and it could change. Info abt such things seems to be scarce. local salary is about 100usd a month.

Interested in a university position? Please PM me. I know one school that needs two or three daytime teachers. Good pay, good hours, good management. |

micro, having seen what you've been capable of referring to as "good" in the past, I don't think I'd be much interested. |

Fair enough. I'm not sure exactly what you are referencing though. |
