The odd thing was that the crossing took 9 hours.

The ice was so thick, that the ferry couldn't handle it, and it took 3 times the normal crossing time.

Oh well...

Makes one wonder where our super-icebreakers are.

Apparently, Finnjet can break through six metres of ice, while being a luxury ship at the same time.

9 hour crossing? Thank God those ferries have multiple bars! And going to bed at 11 is a sin in this town if you are tourist unless it is 11 AM. But seriously, did you enjoy your visit? You should try it in summer when the sun is out, everything is green and the air fresh. It makes the winters well worth it.

Well, I'd had to get the midnight train to Helsinki, and hadn't got any sleep the night before. Not much of a party or pub animal anyway.

I didn't see very much of Tallinn, though. We took a walk around the Old Town in the morning, and then we had to go back. What I did see was nice, but the market place was empty (it was a Sunday), and as you say, it's probably better in summer.

One day, I'll go again, I hope. Saaremaa looks nice.
