16,000 with no allowances will be very difficult indeed to live on in HK.
Accommodation will take up at least 8,000 of that (and on the island that'll be a shoe cupboard.
You seem to be getting paid the going rate / working conditions that a HK person would expect who is living with their family.
On the visa front, you also need to be careful as your new employer will have to prove to Immigration that you are not taking the place of a local employee and that you are bringing specific skills into HK that cannot be sourced locally. Try to find out if they have employed foreigners before - if they haven't the visa process is more long-winded; in a similar position it took me 3 months to sort things out with a very co-operative employer I might add.
I would seriously advise not taking up the job.

Wow! I have 2 days left in Hong Kong before I fly back to Oz for holidays, and all of a sudden 2 schools have contacted me for interviews (yay!)

Can anyone tell me anything about HKUGA (Hong Kong University Graduates Association) primary school in Chai Wan, or North Point Methodist primary school?

Wabbit: Don't worry too much - I've been teaching this year for $14000hk and have survived. Good luck with the NET gig, and even if your school is in NT you'll still be able to commute from central (I go from Causeway Bay to Sha Tin every day and I'm still around to tell the tale Surprised)

can anyone advise?
remember i was saying i was waiting for the results of my written test? i passed!
now the wait is to send all the relevant documents that need to be verified, can anyone tells me what happens next? i know if a school chooses you , you will be offered a letter of acceptance, and how long does it take before you start work? when will they let you know your salary? i need to know the details, as i might have to reject the other job at the music school. need to be fair to the employers 十。

thanks!!

one more questions, i am really sorry if i had hogged the space here:(

remember i had accepted the previous music job? they are in the middle applying for my visa, right now however i learnt that i am eligible for net, what should the next step be.
one thing i know is that net is slow in everything。。。。

so should i continue with my present job which starts in august, or wait. will it jeopardise my application with net if i am already employed. sigh........so much bureaucracy.

I'm confused here. Wabbit is only sending their docs after the interview? I faxed all of mine with my initial application in February, as was stated in the notes that form part of that application. That was the only way, I thought, they could asses your suitability for the post in the initial stages. Then I took my originals to the interview...
It seems that the process isn't consistent at any rate.

nope chi,

i passed both interviews, the only discrepancy is that they want to see my transcripts for one of the qualification which means that i have to send it to them before they give me the salary quotation i think.....

how about you? you p@assed both interviews ya? what is happening on our side now:)
