Wow, it does sound like me.
When I say my mind goes blank, I don't mean I stop thinking....it means my mind is off in space thinking of all these other topics, like in the article.
Which means, I am not fully listening to what hte other person is saying.
And inattention is one of the many symptoms of ADD. |
So if you are inattentive now, whats it going to be like when you are sitting in a lesson with 3 or 4 students. Is your mind going to be allowed to wander or daydream?
How will you focus your mind and attention on the lesson? Getting through the interview is on the beginning, as far as i can see. |

I have also been rejected by NOVA after the interview. I have also applied to AEON, GEOS and Interac but didn't hear back from them.
Does anyone know how NOVA stand on reapplications? I'm planning to leave it a couple of months and then try again. Will I be on some blacklist on their database? Will they hold my poor performance last time against me? |

| After being rejected by the likes of Jet and Nova I almost gave up on Japan, but luckily I had taught before in Indonesia and knew that I had been a very popular teacher. I applied to a small school who happened to hire in the Uk because they had an ex teacher living there who did the interviews. DO NOT give up. Once you get here you will realise that the people who have passed those interviews have in some cases absolutely no right to be anywhere near a classroom. |

It's just that I mess up interviews. Hence, I mess up the first impression.
I do always reflect on what I did wrong on my interviews.

Have you tried an using an interview techniques book? I used to be terrible at interviews and in desperation bought a book called Great Answers To Tough Interview Questions and really worked at it. You have to prepare for an interview in the way that you would revise for an examination if you are truly determined to land the job. Books like that won't work miracles of course, but they will help you to develop strategies to answer thorny questions in a way that will please a prospective employer. |

You might also want to try an interview workshop. Interviewing is a skill and it is not always easy to develop due to a lack of feedback from the interviewer and the personality variables involved with each interview. I've been doing a fair amount of interviews in the US, and I'm finding that I interview better at each one, but a lot has to do with how I click with the interviewer.
As for the ADHD, I'm sure that presents you with your own individual set of challenges, but as someone said if you can't maintain your focus during an interview for a job that you really want to get, then the teaching job that you might land will present an enormous challenge. The Japanese don't put much stock in psychology. They won't be forgiving of ADHD. If you zone out in a lesson your students will see you as disinterested and they will complain about your lessons. Once students start complaining your teaching job that you dream of now will become a nightmare as you start getting flack from managers, head teachers and the corporate office. |

Don't compare yourself to other people. Do YOU think you can do a good job at it? |

Lots of married people do the same thing when their spouses are babbling away at them. With a little practice you can learn how to focus on what others are saying. |

Or you learn how to tune out spouses altogether, you live longer that way. |

Consider the possibility that if you keep getting rejected, it might mean you are not cut out for the job. Afterhiring literally thousands of people, they know what they are looking for. |

Heh, heh, looking at the places he has applied to, I would say probably not.

Definately sounds like me sometimes, though I would say the looking interested, filtering out the nonsense factor in a spouse's talk is necessary ! |

| The big chain eikaiwa aren't the end all be all to living and working in Japan. There are loads of other options if you keep looking. Try the smaller, private eikaiwa joints. |

| Can I just add that it is highly unlikely that you could have ADHD and reach adulthood without having it diagnosed. It's not a small, simple condition. |

| Why would I be diagnosed? It's not like I go see doctors everyday. |

Ever think about making an appointment? Or can't you concentrate long enough to dial the numbers? Seriously, why wouldn't you get checked out? |
