hi!
am a newbie, about to start my first teaching job in june, in taiwan.
i am from south africa, have been in europe since feb 2006 and have to be back in cape town beginning of feb 2007.
my first question is: what are the chances of finding a teaching job for a maximum length of four months? (in taiwan, korea...well, anywhere?)
and another question: am doing an online TEFL course (and please don't tell me it's a waste of money!! too late - I paid already. ). but how accepted are the online TEFL courses? (the course I am doing is aparrently the only online one that is accredited by IATQUO (International Association of TESOL Qualifying Organizations) and it provides a 100-hour TEFL certificate.).
hmm...had another question, but I forgot now.
Oh, well, I am sure it will come to m sooner or later.
so what do u guys say? would very much appreciate your advice.
thanx!!

It is very unlikely you will find a legal job in Taiwan. There is a contract length requirement in order to obtain an ARC. You could work illegal if you want. That's a lttle risky and for a short term engagement, not financially smart. Another problem with your idea is the visa. Taiwan visitor visas are issued for 30 - 60 days. After 60 days, you would have to make a visa run, which would cost you money. There are summer camp jobs. They work you continually and are gernerally not legal.
I don't understand why you would want to go to Taiwan for such a short period of time. It's diffucult to break even or even make money in the first 4 months. If it's for travel, there are a lot more interesting places to visit. |

makes sense. all I want to do is earn some money while traveling. (and don't get me wrong - I enjoy teaching and love working with kids, so it is not just quick, easy way to make my way around).
what other places are there? would it be smarter to get a job for 6 months? will i still have the same problems with visas and all that? and where would the best place be to find a job for 6 months?
I am not keen on working illegally. what would you do in my situation? |
