I really hope someone can help me with ideas.

I really want to teach in Japan but for family reasons I can't stay a full year, just a few months. I have a good friend (Japanese) in Yokosura, a small port city near Yokohama. She told me to try NOVA but I get the impression they aren't so flexible and they would not have time to discuss this. I also wonder if I could find something better, maybe by approaching a smaller school with a proposal.

Unfortunately I am 35 so I don't qualify for that working holiday visa. Nor do I have a current work visa.

I could fill in for someone who is unable to complete their year or teach during a busy time.

I have already taught overseas (China) and have experience with kids and adults, though I prefer adults. I have a BA, BEd and CELTA. I have taught for many years and I also enjoy substitute teaching.

Any ideas about who could use a good, reliable long-term substitute teacher?

To work here you can only work with a valid work visa and you are sponsored by your employer. the minimum visa is for one year.

No employer will hire you for just a couple of months. I will add that to leave a job you need to give notice of anything up to three months. That means quitting as soon as you have started.

Your setup costs are pretty much going to cancel out any money you could save. Coming for a few months to work is not really a practical thing.

Westgate Corporation hires people for 3-month contracts and provides full visa sponsorship, in case you are still determined to come. Don't know if they serve the Yokohama area.

Thank-you both for the information. I am investigating Westgate because the money is not the main object at this point. Cheers
