However (point three) the word which *I* would use to describe your tone to me is "sarcastic." In my way of thinking, criticizing someone who you don't know through sarcasm is hostile. Maybe you didn't mean it that way, but that's how it sounded.

Oh lord .... cheeky is playful sarcasm ...

First of all, I can tell you honestly that I have been offended by some things that people on this forum have said about Turkey, but I did not point them out.

So just because you don't reply to people we all shouldn't ... is that it?

People don't spend hours crafting their forum posts. Look at all of the misspellings and grammar mistakes from English teachers (myself included.)

... what was so uncrafted about my post ... it was written to say what it meant ... as are many other people's posts ... spelling and grammar slips are quite different from not saying what you mean ...

"Are there any decent doctors there?" could on the face of it, indicate the belittling attitude of certain westerners towards non-western cultures .... the comic side of my reply was a quite normal attack on such an attitude ... one intended to ridicule the statement when it is said in an ignorantly belittling manner {instead of simply being carelessly written as I had (so hatefully) attributed to you} ... isn't it ironic that you have a PhD in anthropology and yet can make such a statement ... and isn't the noting of irony worthy of conversation on a discussion board ...

Quote:
Criticizing peoples' forum posts is a fool's errand, in my opinion, unless they say something truly hateful.

So ... is holding up for examination a sentence of interest a fool's errand in your book ... have you no interest in language whatsoever ... there's also plain enough indication here of how you view my actions ... I'll take that as a sign you're about to blow your top, shall I ...

If you want to ignore any linguistic markers deliberately put there by the writer and then interpret your hurt as the writer's hostility towards you, then you are going to have trouble understanding the writer's intentions ... I think they call that taking it personally ...

Sheikh, if I may ask, are you British? First of all, I am not sure exactly what tone is implied by the word cheeky--it is rarely used here in the U.S. Also, I notice that British people often use humor in a way which I, an American, perceive as rude.

I would be very surprised to learn that any of the readers of this forum interpreted your first post as an interesting examination of a sentence. If that was your intention, then

in answer to your question, I would definitely call your post uncrafted.

I had hoped that the intention of my post would have been clear by now ... evidently it isn't ...

I hope you find your decent doctor ..
