It is 5ytl a big Efes.... and usually the odd ikrem thrown in. Elbows are extra. It is surprising civilised..... considering most of the clientel on match nights is English.

Thanks dmb... not wishing to test your patience ... but being an armchair everything ... what about a seat ... would it ordinarily accomodate a seated party of five or more for the game on Sun ... a party that turned up quite early for a few pre-match drinkies ... I would go and check it out myself, but don't arrive in Istanbul until the weekend ...

What's the deal with Starbucks .. if my memory serves me correctly ... in Singapore and Thailand I was paying slightly over $1 (US) for a medium sized Iced Moccha ... with all the bells and whistles ... and yet everywhere else I've been, it's been at least quadruple that ...

Sheik, we usually get there about about an hour before kick off and have a good view. There are usually about 20-30 of us, so room for more. The only places I have heard of that are showing the games with any enthusiasm are the JJ and the consolate. Take your pick!

Starbucks ... there's no way I would have drunk so many of those Iced Mocha's if they'd cost $4-5 a throw .... was there an introductory campaign (5 years ago)??

The airport's always good for a laugh too ... a cup of hot water with a tea bag on a piece of string for quite a whack ...

When I do actually find myself going to one of these American style extortion coffee dens. Gloria Jeans for example. I tend to forgo all the double mocha iced shocked with blueberry knocker and just go for a plain black filter coffee because it's so hard to get a decent cup of coffee in this city.

The popularity of starbucks was achieved mostly by capitilizing on the "a cup of decent coffee for a little bit more than the shi*ty Mr. donut profit water -- flavored with coffee" a variety of places sowed the seeds in the mid/late 80's and then starbucks reaped the harvest when they found out that purple and natural wood tones was the perfect mix for yuppies who still think they moral fiber.

isn't there enough of a middle class here in turkey to do the same thing?? aren't there people here who will pay more for quality but not inflated prices simply for an ego boost?

You would have thought those people who pay a thousand pound a week for an unqualified "nanny" would be prepared to pay a few quid for a coffee. Or, perish the thought, is the nanny story another TEFLer leg pull?

To my great shame I slink into Starbucks once a month or so for a half pound of whole bean French Roast to take home and make some real coffee.

It's pretty good but I'm sure my karma is paying for it...
