I've been living near Sendai for a year now and have spent quite a bit of time in the city. It's a nice small-big city with all the modern conveniences you could want. The city's surroundings are mostly countryside. The local food is delicious and there're lots of interesting places of cultural and historical significance. The nightlife is... well, it exists but...
Lots of old-fashioned thinking up here so a thick skin is necessary.
After that...

Hi,
Just wondering on what you mean by old-fashioned thinking? Old-fashioned compared to other parts of Japan?
I live in Tokyo now (in my third year), but I'm getting tired of it and I'm looking at other cities in Japan to move to, which is why I ask. |

Yes. Compared to other places in Japan where I've spent a bit of time, I've run into quite a bit of it here. It's not something I can really quantify; It just feels like I've run into discrimination and backwards thinking up here more than I have anywhere else. All who live in Japan long enough experience it and I, myself, don't get too riled up about it, but I don't think I'll ever move back to the Tohoku region unless I have a job and an apartment in Sendai. Outside of Sendai, it's all rice fields, farms, and the Japanese equivalent of American rednecks.
I will say, however, that most folks are decent here and most of my experiences here have been positive ones. |

| Thanks for the info. On the whole, Sendai doesn't sound like a great place to live. That's a shame actually as it doesn't seem too bad on paper. Lots of trees and a young average age. Oh well. |
