Once upon a time there was an innocent young man who had so little that he had to be so careful with what he had-he was called Thrifty. One day Thrifty saw an advert-it said come to Istanbul "The Queen of Cities" and teach English and make friends. Thrifty hadn't travelled outside his village before-only as far as the forest which was half an hour from the village.
Thrifty boarded a magic dragon after paying it his last few beans, and flew to the Queen of Cities, far, far away.

After many hours, the dragon landed. Thrifty was amazed and not a little afraid; darkness was falling, and the Queen of Cities seemed to be covered in a strange, foul-smelling cloud, and from the cloud came a low, continuous roar. He wandered through the Magic Portal to the Queen of Cities, having had his bags checked by the Gnome Keepers, who kept on tripping over their long, long moustaches. Thrifty noticed that there were statues of the same man all over the place: He looked stern, with high cheekbones and blazing blue eyes.
'Who is that?' Thrifty asked in wonder to one of the gnomes.
'That is The Wizard', replied the gnome, er, gnomically. 'He watches over us al the time. He is our Great Leader.'
'Where does he live?'
'In our hearts!'
Thrifty had on a scrap of parchment the name of the person he needed to contact, one who worked for the mysterious Emit Hsilgne. He expected them to meet him at the Magic Portal, so he waited, and waited, and waited. But no-one came. Thrifty began to feel a little afraid....

Common looking men started coming on to Thrifty, trying to entice him into conveyances, offering to help him enjoy someting and saat ka abiing him. Thrifty didn't know how to use a public phone and besides he had no change. Eventually Thrifty went to information and they called Emit Hsilgne and Thrifty spoke to the Wicked Witch. Thrifty blurted out his dilemma, reminded them of their promise and sniffed back the tears. In Thrifty's village a promise was a promise but the Wicked Witch humiliated him-she told him to act like a professional, told him this is not Kansas, Dorothy and told him to make his own way to Emit Hsilgne and the Lair of the Wicked Witch.

The honorable Emit Hsilgne was quite good to me. Maybe he just didn't like your looks, eh?
