I know it sounds silly to write a letter but my FAO doesn't speak English (as is the norm it seems) and the guy who is supposed to translate for us is scared to death of her so I know he's not translating exactly what we are saying. Can't stop going to class because there are no classes anymore (as I found out this morning when I went to class!). Besides, it's the students who suffer most in that situation and I genuinely enjoy teaching them.  I can however, refuse to teach summer classes if and when the school gets around to organising them (and telling us about them) so maybe I can use that option then. The summer "classes" will just be babysitting anyway.

Am pretty good at this also (have repaired my washing machine myself) but in regards to the DVD player - it is covered in our contract that any listed appliances will be in working order and are the school's responsibility to repair or replace if required. The toilet is another matter - if it had to do with a seal or metal bits falling off I could probably fix it myself but the porcelain bowl is cracked and needs replacing entirely.

I'd tend to agree with this. The younger kids seem to relate better to women than to men. Also, men sometimes don't work as well with younger kids due to all the issues in the west with "child predators". They are often second-guessing their actions and gestures in classes because they don't want them to be misconstrued in anyway and this reflects in their teaching style. |

Administrators in these fields count on the teachers being softhearted toward their charges. Nurses suffer the same things because administrators know that they are concerned about their patients well being. You are being played.
A teacher at Crazy English tried to pull that line on me. I thought, Hey, they are not "my" students. They paid the school, not me. And the school that they paid is trying to burn me. If the school doesn't care, I certainly do not.
It's a matter of outlook. I understand your point of view. I ate a lot of brown stuff through the years because of it. I may eat some more. But when and if I do, it will be a rational decision I make after weighing the gains and losses.
If you are working from your heart instead of your head, from a business perspective, you are going to lose. |

| My school is looking for women teachers at the parents' request. They think only women can be caring. Even if their reasoning is a bit stupid, we aren't going to try to talk them out of it. Ladies, if you are looking for work in Guangzhou, please consider the Tutoring Center for International Students. We pay 10,000 yuan per month for 17-22 hours weekly. Overtime and part time is 150 (but we really need full timers). Urgently seeking a kindy/lower elementary level teacher for Tian He Bei Lu campus and a older kids/adults teacher for the beautiful downtown area of Dongguan. TEFL/TESOL would be great, bachelor's not required. Experienced teachers needed. |

| That's funny. My school likes male teachers, especially for kindergarteners, since they get all female teachers normally. Guy teachers are kind of new and exciting for them. |

Gee, I absolutely love how, as a 24 year old male, I am automatically saddled with a great number of stereotypes that my behavior must fall into. 
And I am so fortunate as to get these stereotypes from Chinese and non-Chinese alike. Lucky me!  |

There are some academic reasons for wanting a female faculty member. My current school has 70% female students, and the English teacher who is staying (he had the unfortunate nature of signing a longer contract) is male. The students have requested a female native speaker if it is possible.
I can certainly agree from my own experiences that the best advice is to trust your own internal radar--if you don't feel comfortable, run.
