I would avoid Apollo Education in Hanoi right now. Currently they have a DOS and ADOS who are not to be trusted !

They have hired several teachers in the past couple months and on many, if not most occasions are breaking the contract agreement they have proposed. This includes several teachers hired for the summer program, who came all the way to Vietnam, only to find their "seasonal contracts" changed for the worse. Also, many full-time teachers are having stipulations in their contract changed and being told "well we decided to change it, you are out of luck".

Now due to the manner in which these two conduct themselves (extremely unprofessional) several teachers have left or just quit in the recent months, causing a quite unsatisfactory working environment at the school. Also several of the teachers who left, explained an increased tax rate charged and difficulties getting the proper final payment.

These 2 managers are not to be trusted, as they have absolutely no intention on honoring teachers contracts, and any teacher who mentions this is punished with a "sudden schedule change"(for the worse of course) or a cut in hours, sometimes by 50% !

Currently Apollo Education in Hanoi is suffering an internal melt down and should be avoided at all cost. The other competitive schools such as Language Link and British council offer better work conditions and a contract that will be honored by the school.

Not sure, she's gone. About 15 teachers gone in 3 months, hard to keep track.

I was revoked a job offer with Apollo. At the time I was completing my term in northern Thailand. I got offered a job with Apollo/hanoi. Upon getting a job offer through email, I remained corresponding with the person ( a british lady) that hired me (I wanted to confirm the terms of the contract, teaching hours, medical ........etc.. legitimate stuff). About a week later I emailed the person that offered me the job to confirm I will take the job. Then all of a sudden I received an email from her explaining that they decided to revoke my job offer because I asked them too many questions and thought that I would pose a problem if they hired me!

Obviously I was dissappointed since I was just about to make flight arrangements (lucky I didnt). Anyway, I sent her a reply explaining that they were legitmate questions I asked and felt it was absurd that they revoked my job offer solely for that reason! They never replied.

Anyway, now I am working in a village in Thailand where I am treated fairly and the people are nice.

This can be common.

You might have scared this director because you were actually being a little professional.

They don't like that. It also makes them nervous.

Many EFL schools are looking for zombies and buffalos. They like to hire people that are behind the economic 8-ball and actually need the job.

Pretend that you're dumb and hungry, and you'll be hired right away. But that also means the questions you asked (which were fair to ask) may not get answered, nor followed through on.
Snaff - its very true what you said!

School directors love buffalos, zombies and new comers to their country. Since they do not know enough to argue with them and question what they know! :D

norbdemn, don't worry your not missing anything by not getting the job with Apollo in Hanoi. The DOS and ADOS are well know for not accepting any questioning of their decisions. Many times teachers would question why certain contract stipulations are not being meet, and they would be subdued with less hours or outright threats.

Currently the management is in "damage control" mode as about 15 teachers have left (quit/runners) in the last couple months. It is not a place for professional teachers, just Yes and No people.

MOD EDIT

Yes she is still there as the Director of Studies. She is also the one who would have likely cancelled norbdemn's position. She and her "partner" have been the cause of many of the problems at the school recently.
