|
|
I was wondering if I could get some input my ARC from my old school is expiring this Monday. Recently I started at a new school and they sent everything in to get a new ARC for me.
The problem is I haven't received the papers yet to take to the foriegn affairs police to get my new one but when the school called to check in during the middle of the week they said they sent the papers out so we should receive them in a couple of days.
One of my co-workers said if it's this far I should be ok but I'm worried if I don't get the papers on Monday when I finally do get them and go into the foriegn affairs police I'll be in trouble for still being in Taiwan on an expired ARC. Is it true that as long as the ministry has sent out my papers that i'm ok? Or should I look into doing a visa run? |

You need to get your school to write you a letter on their letterhead avowing that the paperwork is at the CLA. Take this to the FAP first thing Monday morning. Be contrite and a little bit afraid. Chances are very good they will grant you a 30 day extension.
Even overstay usually only results in a 1000NT fine.
Best of luck. If you do have to do a visa run, I suggest Bangkok over HK as the TECO is much friendlier and BK is waaaaay cheaper. And cooler. |

Cool? I don't think you're talking about the weather. But, I agree Bangkok is a much better option for a visa run. |

Go to your nearest Foreign Affairs Police Station and ask them for an extension.

Don't waste your time. He is only encouraging you to be an illegal alien. |

Unfortunately Pop Fly is correct. Even if you are granted an extension you still will not be allowed to work or seek employment in the occupied territories of Taiwan and the Pescadores. Of course only the foolish or the naive would seek employment in Taiwan from abroad. If you find another job while in Taiwan you will have done so illegally thus making you an illegal alien. Chances are that your previous ARC was in fact issued through the use of fraud or deception ( nearly all are) thus you are most proably already are an illegal alien.
Immigration on Taiwan under the occupational authorities is based on racial profiling thus we are all illegal aliens unless you fit the correct racial profile.
Welcome to club!

I don't know what I wrote that makes you believe that I somehow have a fraudulent ARC or that I'm illegal in my search for new work??!?!
Seriously Aristotle, it's been a long time since I've been on here but now it seems that you're trying to instigate fear and anxiety. You used to have a valuable tidbit or two thrown in with your nonsense.
I was legally employed at a school which sponsored my ARC. My contract ended earlier than my ARC because my school went into summer camp at the first of July. I found a school that would sponsor me for a new ARC before my old ARC expired.
As a foreign teacher, you are allowed to stay in Taiwan due to your having been hired full-time by a school. If you lost that job or quit, you would need to leave the country. The Council of Labor Affairs interprets the Employment Services Act as allowing foreign teachers to be hired by more than one school without requiring permission of their current employer. They will issue all second (and even third) full-time applications without regard to your first school. (http://www.tealit.com/arc_transfers_and_release_letters.htm)
I know three or four people who have been through this process flawlessly but they had more time on their hands than I have.
Get the facts. I feel sorry for newbies who are looking for honest and straightforward information and they get pessimistic jaded falsifications. I normally wouldn't go off like this but it's BS like this that gave me a lot of unecessary anxiety before I came over here.
I don't know why people find the need to respond when they don't even know what they're responding to or don't know the facts 100%. It'd be one thing if it was presented as a "maybe" or "from my experience" but you talk like you were sitting there when they wrote the laws.
Seriously, find a hobby and stop trying to deter people from coming to Taiwan with your fear and smear campaign. |
