I have a job at a certain school and they ask me to fill out a form which asks me many personal questions regardig life outside of teaching, whether I am gay etc. Is this not an invasion of my privacy? I know there would be legal action where I am from if an employer asks that.

Any thoughts?

Many employers think it's their business to know whatever they want from us regardless of whether it's a violation of rights or relevant to the job or not. I think there is some legitimacy in screening candidates as to their past background to some extent. After all, I wouldn't like the idea of an ex-child molester being employed in my school. It's shocking how many schools don't do any such background checks. However, whether you want to check 'yes' to being homosexual and risk losing your job, I think it's a matter of discretion on your part whether you be honest in your answers to the questions or not. I know I've lied on all sorts of questionnaires in the past - but I considered them all to be white lies, so had no sleepless nights about them! I do also frown at mandatory blood tests in disguise of quite purely AIDS testing in some countries as a prerequisite to getting a teaching job.
