Hello,

I'd like to ask for some advice on the DELTA, which I'm planning to take in Barcelona next year. Should I do the intensive or the extensive course? Obviously I want to get as much as possible from the course, and the extensive would give me the chance to classroom-test some of my new knowledge. But just how crazy can I expect to go over the nine months? All I've heard of it so far is normally mild and reasonable people describing it as "nine months of hell". But I loved doing my (intensive) CELTA and I want to get the same enjoyment form the DELTA. Which one should I do?

Many thanks,

The Prickle-Eye-Bush

My CELTA tutors strongly encouraged us to spread it out, and that seems intuitively the more reasonable option. How could a slower pace, with the opportunity for experimentation and reflection, make for a worse experience?

Hi Isanity,

Thanks for your comments. I have to say I agree with you, it makes more sense to me. It's just that I'd heard so many people talk about burning out doing the nine month course and having a full time job to deal with too...

Whether to do the intensive Dip or the distance is really only something you cn decide on as it depends on yor individual learning stlye. I did mine intensively in Seville and although it was quite tough going I was fairly well organised and had done quite a lot of background reading beforehand so didn't really find it too much of a problem. Saying that, colleagues of mine have found that the Distance DELTA suited them and couldn't see the attraction of doing it intensively.
Whatever you decide - good luck with it.

Wow, I'm impressed! Unfortunately though my musical tastes are in denial at the moment...the backroads of China not being the best place to catch up on Englsih folk music...
