I was finally given my placement city...Yokkaichi. I arrive in two weeks, but can't find much info online, or on this forum about the city. Can anyone shed any light on what its like here. My girlfriend and I aren't really into the club/party scene (which seems to be the focus of many threads starting with "stuff to do in..."), but more into getting out to the country, mountains, beaches, sightseeing....etc. Are there many gyms?
Would anyone know of a sports bar in Nagoya where college football is shown. I can leave America, but I can't leave my Buffaloes behind!!
Also, anyone know how long it takes by train from Yokkaichi to Nagoya, and the price??
Thanks |

You can check train times here - http://www.jorudan.co.jp/english/norikae/e-norikeyin.html -
It's 33 minutes into the city, so you'll probably have plenty of nature where you're living. Don't know much else.
There are sports bars in Nagoya, although I don't know why you'd want to watch the Buffs struggle through another season. Go Irish! |

There is a sports bar called Schooners I think in Fushimi (purple line on Nagoya subway) and its a five minute walk from the subway. They have cable TV with NFL etc.
Not much in Yokkaichi I imagine.

I drove through Yokkaichi once.
Lots of factories, it wasn`t attractive.
It is a suburb of Nagoya.
I remember being stuck in traffic, even before rush hour. |

You may have a hard time finding a bar in Nagoya that televises college ball. Shooters is OK but only shows big games like the National Championship. sorry
You may have better luck with satellite TV |
