Is anyone familiar with Kofu? I'm thinking of stopping there for a day after climbing Mt. Fuji next month. Does anyone known of any decent, but CHEAP places to stay? The Lonely Planet doesn't really give much attention to Yamanashi Prefecture. |

Yep, I'm familiar with it. I'm not sure if it's Lonely Planet but at least one of the major travel guides disses Kofu as a place not worth visitng except only as a stopover on the way to/from Mt. Fuji.
Anyway, that aside, Kofu has your typical selections of business hotels which range in price (probably about 5,000 and up)... As for inns, hostels, ryokans and the like, there may be some but nothing really stands out in my mind right now. I can ask some of my friends and PM you if I come up with anything. |

Why don't you stay in Fujiyoshida instead? It is much nicer than Kofu and you can walk around the lake etc. |

Thanks for the info/suggestions, Kitano and Jim! As to why I'd prefer to stay in Kofu, it is actually because of the Takeda Shingen-related stuff there. I'm a history/samurai otaku, and am particularly fascinated with Shingen. My Obon holiday will be cut short due to a visa appointment at the US embassy (for my wife to go to the US), so I won't have as much time as I'd like. And, as much as I love hiking, I fear that walking around a lake, however beautiful it may be, might be one of the last things I want to do after going up and down Fuji!
Any more info you could provide, Jim, (or anyone else), including contact #s, would be much appreciated!!!!!!! |
