Does anyone have any experience or info about CC VIP Center in Shenzhen. The headmaster/Head Laowai is named David C Smith from England.

They are quite new to Shenzhen, but I think that they have a school in Shanghai. I know from thier website that they use the Callan method for teaching and that they are a partnership with Sun Moon.

Has anyone worked there? Any opionions good, bad or ugly.

Thanks

I interviewed there a couple weeks ago and worked there for a very short time. Basically, David runs the joint as his personal fiefdom and there is constant tension between him and Sun Moon. Differing philosophies and style.

Essentially, David Smith wants the school to be high end and Sun Moon doesn't know what that is. Secondly, David has no clue how to manage people in a calm, respectful manner. He has a terrible case of Big Manism and runs roughshod over all.

On top of that he can't seem to remember what his commands were one minute to the next or what appointments he makes or what promises or what his committements are. Just totally random way to run things and when things fall apart or don't come together it is always some "dumb" Chinese person's fault or a stupid teacher and never his.

In all my time in Shenzhen I have never seen or met anyone how has alienated more people and gotten a worse reputation quicker. He has only been here for 2-3 months and already many teachers (at Wall Street, COM COM or EF) who have interviewed there say they would never work there. The interviews were insulting, his manner and approach demeaning, just plain arrogant and out of control ego.

In the couple of days I worked thier the environment was very tense and uncomfortable. Plus, the pay is weak compared to the hours and expectations. The Callan Method is probably good for the students but the teacher is nothing but a tape recorder. In fact the tape recorder would probably be better.

On top of that when you are not in class you are expected to sit near the lobby at this teller style terminal and talk to any student how happens by. No teacher's office or privacy. Plus it's a 40 hour week with no limit on teaching hours. All this for the princely sum of 12,000 a month before taxes and "fees" are magically deducted.

All in all, considering the long hours, the arrogant, abusive boss (David C Smith), and the boring teaching method it is just not worth 12,000 a month for me. Plus you need to wear a tie. No thanks.
