Just wondering if anyone has any experience working for National plus or International schools in Bandung.

It really is much nicer than Jakarta

B.I.S only has about 40 students I think, so dont recruit very often. I knew a lady who worked for a national plus school in lembang but she didnt like it too much; I think they were paying quite a lot more to people who had been recruited from overseas. I seem to remember something about some heavy Christian churchy stuff too. She works for Ukrida Penabur International now ( UPI) - that name seems to crop up dunnit?
Bandung is good for a bit, but if you really dig the hyatt, I dont now how youll take to erlas mexican(poxican) cafe. But hey, im in prague and hating it, what do I know?

I spent last weekend in the Hyatt Regency Bandung

I liked the city - compared to JKT it is nice. I also like the fact that it's possible to cycle around the city, and it's close to the countryside.

hey ,whatever floats your boat dude; i wont sit in judgement (unless your surname happens to be Gadd). I had a love /hate relationship with bandung but for sure its great living up in the hills, but it doesnt have the nightlife or social scene. still , ive got some good friends there.
FYI most schools pay around 8mil , that national plus i mentioned i think was about 11, Upi 12.

I just came back last week from a month of teaching at BPK Penabur in Bandung, which uses the IBO curriculum. I enjoyed my time there but, then again, I'm not particularly interested in things like "a night life" and I have no way of knowing how I might feel about Bandung if I had stayed longer; say, a year or so.

I did find the trash problem to be a bit annoying, though.

Where's the National Plus in Bandung?

Bdg nightlife isn't great, but I'd still always choose it over Jakarta as a place to live.

Guess youre talking about the place thats also the offices for UPI - ukrida penabur international. Theyre putting teachers out into about 10 schools in Bandung right now. Its sweaty non AC work but the money and hours are good.
A friend of mine recently left another language school to work for them and has indicated that church attendance is now mandatory in some of their schools.
Dont know exactly what the definition of national plus is but I remember that all four of the schools I was in were aimimg for that status - as a result they were initiating programmes to train teachers to deliver their lessons in English as well as just having native speakers baby sit 40 six- year olds.
i appreciate its a bit funny me giving advice whilst sat on campus at the university of Surrey but f*ck it , i need that vicarious Indo experience - just call me misterrrr.........please?

Wow, the Hyatt in Bandung sounds expensive. Try the Harmony sometime; it's nice, cheap, clean and there's some great martabak stalls nearby.

Granted, there's not much night life in Bandung, and when the invasion from Jakarta starts on Friday afternoons, the city and restaurants are best avoided anyway.

But, if you're living up Lembang way, it's close to the countryside.
