Hello all,

I will be moving to HK in early August. I was just wanting to know the common ages of expats working there that post on this forum. I am 24 with two years experience in Korea, so am fairly young. I noticed when I went to HK for Christmas last year that the majority of the expat crowd seemed to be a bit older (30-50s). Am I correct in my observations, or was it just middle-age drink special nites in Wan Chai and Lan Kwai Fong for the holidays? Or where the expats my age in other areas of Hong Kong/traveling outside of HK during the holidays?

I'd love to hear back from someone. Let me know what you think.

Thanks in advance,

YellowHair

hello 'yellowhair'!
Well, I'm 27 but most of the NETs i know are a little older (about 29 upwards) having said that, I seem to remember a couple of guys and girls around 23 or 24 during orientation. Anyway, sure you will meet some cool people whatever their age!

I am a NET and I'm 25. Most expats are older, as many work in other industries and I would guess that as a general rule, more experience is required to secure a position in those sectors (i.e. management positions) while a few years of experience is sufficient for native English teachers. Also, you will meet expats who have been around a long time.

On the other hand, there are a few NETS around my age, but most are in their thirties +.

I don't have any western friends in Hong Kong. Ultimately, it is up to you to make local friends and socialise with them.

Good luck!

I'll be turning 23 on August 12th, and most of my roommates and company mates are in their middle twenties here!
