Hello to all from the Land of the Lost.
So, the other day, my husband bumped into a friend of a friend who said "hey, your wife isn't working right now? well, maybe she could write a Teachers Book for us."
Due to any number of factors, I am sooooo not interested in this offer, and also believe (due to any number of factors) they will offer me the lowest amount they can possibly think of. (one, I am still not wearing enough gold jewlery to be taken seriously)
Just to see what will happen, I would like to ask for the highest amount possible and see what they do with it.
The teachers book would be written from scratch by me and 2 friends (whom I will run out and recruit to write thier book for them)
it is for ages 8-14, to teach them "that English is fun".
Anybody know the low offers and high offers for writting teachers books?
I am off to battle more dinosaurs in the Land of the Lost. were there space ships, too? or was that the "Danger Will Robbison" one? are they the same? And, did anybody ever see a cartoon about big blobs of colour that lived in a commune? all the colour blobs had different personalities... (I swear, I'm not making it up! It was a HannaBarbara thing) Ciao. |

almuze, i hope you use a spell checker...
you should plan on taking months to write it. one publisher told me his writers would take 6 months minimum and 5000 pounds. That would be a start. I have experience with the process, so if you want to pm me, feel free. |

No the OP said WRITING a book not wholesale copying from published material like the material we use at work.
5000 for 6 months work-that is not much more than we get paid. |

You need to ask yourself
"If I'm going to write this book, why don't I just write one and publish it myself, thus keeping all the copyright and profits from its sale"
If you'd rather work for someone else and are not bothered about intellectual property and the like, then you need to sort out issues such as who will proofread, edit, typeset, check the type setting, do any neccessary couriering, exactly how long the book will be (don't have any of this write it, then see, rubbish), if the book will be monolingual or have some Turkish in it. Then you work out the time frame for it, increase it by around 15% (including any deadlines), work out a plan, then ask him how much he is prepared to pay per month's work.
For a short term contract (6 months) I'd suggest around 2000 YTL per month (each), for long term, about 1500 YT. This is based on working at home for around 30 hours per week.
If that lot doesn't put him off, then nothing will. |

5000 pounds for 6 months is only roughly 850 pounds a month. What is so doubtful about earning a bit less than that? How little are you earning?
I imagine that virtually all of the posters here are earning at least, say 800 a month. If not how could they support families? |

Is it that much?
I would say roughly that over the last few years the hourly rate at the school that cannot be named has been about 6-8 pounds an hour depending on the exchange rate. Given that you take every single hour you can 7-800 pounds a month is doable. |

See, it is summer and I have nothing to do (ha) but ponder outrageous book writting proposals (I was going to ask for a million dollars, but now I will sound much more professional, thanks to all!)
and become seriously concerned about cartoons from my past. Does no one wonder why GI Joe went off the air? what good is Sonic when you could be watching those communal colour blobs? (which, to date, only me and one other person in the[/i]whole world remember seeing)
Why don't they show english cartoons on BBC? maybe the English don't watch cartoons! they only watch ironic satires about the Queen. could this be true? |

Land of the Lost was just dinosuars. It used to scare the hell out of me.
I didn't know they took GI Joe away! When I was a kid, they fought Russians, then South American drug lords, and then Arabs. It all depended on who America's main enemy was at the time. My husband says in Turkey while he was growing up, GI Joe fought aliens!
I never saw the colored blobs show. Sounds pretty good. Does anyone else remember Stop the Pigeon? I'm not sure if it's a real memory or if I made it up. It seemed to involve, uh, stopping a bad pigeon. |

Stop that pigeons with *beep* Dastardly and Mutley. Classic. |
That *beep* is *beep*ing *beep*. D.ick is a real name. What if my name was D.ick? Would I not be able to use it on this forum? And come to think of it, what if my name was c.unty chops, or w.ankbadger.
