greetings!
I've never worked in this field, but I have an interest in teaching in Thailand and was wondering if any of you can help me with some info.
I am 21yrs old female, have no university education but am planning on completing the Tesol course(more for presentability, I have heard the course is not well recognized in Asia but I figured any certificate and experience will help).
Although I am not a native speaker I have been living in Canada for 7years now, speak perfect English and have always had high marks in school:)
So my question is : How likely is it to find work in Thailand in my situatuion, and what is the average salary I can expect, any extra money to save?Is it possible to find work in rural locations or at least not in the major cities? Are working visas given only to teachers with university education?
Thanks for any info

each school can set their own stadards, but as far as the government is concerned a university diploma is not a 100% requirement for a work permit.
however, without one you will absolutely need that tesol certificate, as I can't imagine many (reputable) places hiring somebody with neither.
certainly there are jobs all over the country, just check out the job board here at dave's or over at ajarn.com
as for the native speaker bit...regret to inform, but there's a fair chance that depends on what you look like - the whiter the better as far as the thais are concerned.
that said, very little is hard and fast throughout the country - anything is possible. |
