| The Australian "accent" is not admitted by the United Nations in its official functions. When United Nations interpreters interpret from "x" language into English, it must be done in either British English (received pronunciation or received refined pronunciation) or American English (preferably what is called "Voice of America" radio English). And this is a world-wide UN rule. |
And this sounds like pure, unadulterated bullshirt!! |

For all of you saying that you don't need a degree to work in Heilongjiang: you're absolutely right.
Recently I was feeling alot of anxiety about all the "no degree" rumors I'd been reading on this webpage, so I decided to do a little research (I'm in Harbin, BTW). For the record: I've always been legal in China. I came over on a Z visa in 2003, got a residence permit and FEC a few days after my arrival, and ever since then have never had any trouble gettin them renewed. However, I started sweating it a little after checking out this webpage, so I consulted my school's leaders. They said I had nothing to worry about: I have all the legal documents, our school is a licensed and connected school, and I have a long-term contract with steady employment. I was still worried, though. I called the police and Foreign Affairs Office and asked what the motions for renewing all of my documents were, and NOBODY mentioned degrees or anything at all. All they said was, "bring your old ones down and fill out a form." When I visited the Foreign Affairs Office to renew my stuff a few weeks ago I explained to the lady the situation I was in. She said, in no uncertain words, that there was a teacher shortage in Heilongjiang, especially in Harbin, and that any teacher, degree'd or otherwise, who was working legally and had steady employment at a licensed school was fine. Looking over my CV, she saw that I was TEFL certified, had worked at the same school continuously for 4 years, and that my school was a real school (as opposed to one of those "culture schools" that some guy opens in his apartment), that all my documents were in order, and she renewed everything I needed. No problem AT ALL. |

in keeping with this talk about "strine" maybe we ought to start a discussion on ebonics in the US while we're at it. after all this is a big part of colloquial american speech in use by a large part of the population in that country.
for example, i urge all of you to try out this ebonics translator:

ps: i cant believe there are people in the states who are actually pushing to make ebonics part of regular school curriculum. but there are many. |
