...So how does that work ??? men come in the morning and female students in the afternoon.....I hope the HCT is thinking of paying extra to the staff who take these jobs

Extra pay, not very likely. (There's a budget crunch, don't you know).

The new people will most llikely be sent there and be told they have the honour of starting something new and wonderful.

Many places in the Gulf have split shifts and none of them pay extra that I have heard of. The variation is in how fairly they do the scheduling.

Do the other branches of HCT do splits now? If so, how is it handled?

Most of the Men's colleges have two shifts; in general, morning students who don't workand afternoon students who do. Teachers usually have morning and afternoon classes so you may start at 08.00 one day but much later, and finish later, 21.30 if you are unlucky, another. But it's still 40/45 hours a week on campus. If you have a 'late' class, you shouldn't have an 'early' next day.

Where exactly is Madinat Zayed? I have checked a map of the UAE and I can't find it. Is it in Liwa?

Also, if you take a job at one school in the HCT system, can you transfer after a certain time?

depends on the Director of the college where you are currently employed. Some will authorize your transfer with due notice - others will do all they can to block it as they consider it a personal insult that you don't want to stay on with them (whether that's the reason or not). Sharjah is an especially difficult place to escape once you're working there.

Yes, it's in Liwa.

Strictly speaking, MZ is not in the Liwa, which is a collection of small village oases spread over a crescent about 150 km long. MZ is in the Western Region, which includes the Liwa, and is about 60 ks north of Liwa. I think it's the administrative centre for the area and some maps show it as Badr Zayed.

It's about 2/5s of the way south of the coast toward Leewa.

Since the government opened the H'neem road, most of the traffic goes on this route since it is closer to Abu Dhabi and Mussafah. This means that Madinat Zayed mostly gets only local traffic.

I've passed through on the way to Leewa, if you blink you'll miss it, there may be one traffic light IIRC. That was a couple of years ago, so I haven't seen the campus.


On the up side, you'll never have a problem finding a parking place, and there are plenty of "hitchin" posts to tie up your camel or donkey.

(I checked it out on google earth and it is easy to find... not many roads out there. Just down the road a piece from where it forks... about halfway down to the Liwa Oasis - which must be older photos as it is not as clear)

Indeed. I have been at the HCT for ten years and just hope my towel has enough drops of motivation that I can wring out of it to get me through the next four semesters of my fourth and final three-year contract. Financially, though, it's been a good run, although inflation has increasingly started to bite over the past two years.
