Ive read some things in Thailand may be hard to buy. Not that I wish to have access to tons of luxury products just that I would like to know what i need to bring in excess if necessary.

Ive read its hard to get Tampons there..is that correct? I also dye my roots every 4-6 weeks, is it easy to get hold of gen hair dye or will i need to bring it with me? Is there any other things you recommend I bring because i cant get there?

Sorry if it seems ignorant, just im really not sure on what is readily available and what is not and wish to be somewhat prepaired.

Many thanks.

Both are really easy to buy in Thailand. I suppose it might depend on what city you are in. Bangkok, Phuket, Chang Mai or other major cities you will have no problem getting these items and they are reasonable. What city will you be in, I might be able to give you some names of stores.

Close to Chiang Mai or Bangkok initially for my CELTA course(havent def decided where yet). As for where after that, im not too sure, as I plan to take a little time to travel in order to get a 'feel' for the right location.

It is great news, however, to be told that at least in the major cities there will be no problem getting hold of certain items as I would prefer to pack super light.

I'd appreciate the names of the stores in the Bangkok and Chiang Mai area.

Thank you.

Buying ladies stuff in thailand isn't too hard, Vila supermarket has heaps of international brands of everything, including tampax! haah.
They also have Vegemite for the aussies and various other american luxuries.
The local stuff is just as good though, as far as sanitary stuff goes lol
As for hair colour, if your a shade of brown or black your in luck, if your a blonde, that gets trickier. I myself am a blonde, well, bottle blonde these days. I take over my own bleach, hair colour and peroxide and colour my own hair. After years in Thailand and having had my hair over processed many a time ( and a few blisters on the ears from too much peroxide) I much prefer to do it myself.
Good hair removing wax doesn't go astray either. Thai's are not hairy people and so getting a good wax can be tricky too. I end up taking a block or two with me and have waxing parties with a few friends (and a few bottles of wine). Send me a message if you have any questions. cheers

Thanks gyspywoman!

Im brunette, so looks like ill have an easier time than you on the hair dye front. Wink I'll just take a couple of boxes then and buy it over there when i run out. I too prefer to dye my own hair, even here (UK) (Had it dyed at Charles Worthington a few months back for a shocking amount of money only for the colour not to look as nice as my usual home dye! So sod that.)

I LOVVvvE my home wax (veet that you blast in the microwave hehe). Had totally gone out of my head to bring that. So thats most def on the list of extras!

Asian girls seem to have a pretty breazy time of looking good. Nice coloured skin, great complexions, lush hair, tiny frames, virtually hair free, looking great without even a scap of make-up. Not that im mamoth woman without products, but unfortunately im not much of a jump-out-of-bed, shake-your-mane and look gorgeous kinda person either. *sigh* Cool

Hi,
Glad it helped.
There are also Boots pharmacies there, that have a big range of hair colour too, for brunettes.
Cosmetics are really cheap and if you go to MBK ( a big shopping centre) up near the top floor, there is tons of your major brands going out cheap, even Mac cosmetics etc.
Theres not a lot you can't get, single nice men are more trickier to find haha. Most of the women I know there, import their boyfriends haha.
I also work in the modelling sector over there, (scout not model haha) so can usualy find most things through contacts and also get invites to lots of fun stuff, so if you need anything while your there, drop me an emai at.

lol! Well its lucky I've been stung then..after a 8yr relationship that went pear-shaped men are OFF THE MENU for me for now, although scarey thought when my libido kicks in. (Infact, Im beginning to wonder if I should convert to a nun because Im seriously living like one Shocked ..hmm..is that why nuns are called nuns? cuz they get 'none' / nun. Er..OMG, bad joke and i digress..so.. back to topic..)

One thing im wondering is also about clothes and shoes. I'm seriously budgeting for this transition and it gives me the sweats to think how much its costing me. I cant afford to buy much clothes / shoes for the trip and was hoping that i could buy things cheaper when i get there (also I wish to look around to get a better feel of the correct things I should be wearing.) Im a UK size 8-10 (USA 6-Cool and take a UK size 6 - 6 1/2 (US 81/2 -9). Would it be hard for me to get clothing and shoes in these sizes (esp the shoes)? I guess im also taller than the average Thai girl at 5'7" but I read that you can get clothes made relatively cheap. I hope so!

Any advice would be great. And cheers for the email alex!

*sigh* ..CELTA, flights, basic items...sounds so little, but costs so much!

P.s. For any males reading pls dont take offence. Im NOT MALE BASHING ! Laughing Just got hurtttttt by one Razz
