To cut to the chase I have a worker's visa for Japan but want to leave and work legally in Korea. I would be applying for a Korean visa at the Korean embassy here in Japan. Should I cancel my Japanese visa? My apologies if this is a totally stupid question. |

You don't need to do anything to your visa. Just let it expire. |

To add to what canuck said, if you leave Japan without a re-entry permit, that action by itself nulls your visa immediately. The visa only dictates the MAXIMUM time you are allowed to stay in Japan, never the minimum. |
