1) when are you coming?
Hopefully around Feburary
2) where to?
Tokyo I guess, Michael wants to live in the technology district (for obvious reasons), but I am sure that we will not live there (to expensive)
4) for how long?
For one year is the plan, we may stay longer depending on how much we like it.
5) what other post graduate plans had you two entertained?
We have thought about going from country to country to teach English. But I dont know if we will really do that. We have heard fantasy stories about people working in Japan as a teacher, saving lots of money, and traveling for a year or so, that would be cool.
We eventually want to adopt a child and then have our own.
I am very interested in medicine and health related issues (also teaching) so I might go back to school to get a masters in Health so that I can teach it to the general public. I also might go back to school and finish nursing (I started it a year ago).
Michael doesnt really know what he wants to do. He likes video games, but is not sure if he wants to work with them. One thing he does know for sure though is that he hates office work. He may love teaching..who knows?
Have you ever heard of Ann Taylor? I used to work there and I think I am going to get some of my clothes from there. Because I am so short (an opposite problem of yours) it is very hard to find clothes that look good on me.
Oh, I saw the coolest fashion for tall people the other day while "shopping/looking" online for clothes. They are bringing back the 80's, you wear tight spandex black pants (almost like really thick stockings that stop about four inches above the ankle) and over that you wear one of those weird looooong shirts, probably with a belt. Isnt that insane? haha. It would never look good on me but it might look good on you because you are tall. Maybe you could start that trend in Japan! lol.
Anyways, I think that we are going to go shopping tomorrow.
So no dressy flip flops eh? I was hoping to slide my favorites in because they are dressy...oh well. In Louisiana (where I live) all we wear is flip flops, its to hot to wear much else.
For some reason, I like talking about clothes..lol. So carry on! |

Before I am accussed of pretending to be something I am not again, I should say that I am not female, though I don't see that it makes any difference.
How did you know I am tall, or very tall actually?
Ann Taylor, believe I have heard of it, sounds good. And sounds like you will be all decked out. Remember it is going to be colder than the dickens here in February, though spring will be just around the corner and you two will enjoy the Cherry Blossom viewing.
You guys are going to love it here!
Reaon I am interested in your story is because we may have a room for rent if you two are interested. But you may opt for the gaijion house if you want to be in town or like partying, don't know.
Enjoy,

sorry, didnt assume you were female...lol. I was talking to the person who told me that she was 5 foot 10, I was actually talking to both of you at once...I know that i didnt make my self clear..sorry..haha.
Is "decked out" good or bad?
You own a apartment complex? We do not know where we are working yet, that may depend on where we live. We have already paid American Tesol, if they do not come through then your apartment might come in handy. I was very scared about going to Japan and having to find a place to live that day...stress!
Do you have a website about your apartments? When do they become available? Do we have to pay a gift/large amount of money? Are you close to any schools?
Another question off of topic, we really want to get a job before we get there, and I know that it will have to be a chain school...are there any chain schools besides the Big 5 (or 4)? Any that you know about that we could look into now? If you do not know any do not worry, we have to wait and see what American Tesol does anyway...more stress! lol.
thanks for all the help!
oh..and we are no so much the party animals, we like to have fun, but are not that interested in alcohol (I have studied to much medicine..) |

We own a condo Quibby and are thinking to rent out a room short-term, to people like yourselves trying to get situated here, thinking about it.
Tennis players only, just kidding.
Decked out in Japanese: KAKUI
Work will find you, sure of that.
Good luck and keep us posted!
Enjoy,
s
P.S. Getting there is the best part. |

| A chain school with a good reputation in the north of Japan is James English School. |

| I know the OP is already sorted but for anyone else in a similar position my bf and I decided to go with Nova because they place couples together. They find you an apartment together too. We couldn't find anyone else from the UK that would do that. They do also give you 2 days off in a row but for some reason only promise that one will be together. I'm hoping we can maybe shift swap a bit around that. They place you in different schools which I reckon is a good thing so we can meet more people that way and it isn't a problem to have the same holidays. |

Quibby, ECC might be a good fit for you. There's plenty of opportunity for classroom work, and the atmosphere is pretty good. They have about thirty schools throughout Tokyo, so you can live anywhere in the city and still be relatively close to a school.
You mentioned your boyfriend wanting to live in the electronics district. Akihabara wouldn't be a very convenient place to live, but it's easily accessible via several train lines. I worked about 10 minutes by train from Akihabara and went there about once every two months. That should be enough for even the most hardcore techie. There are also well-stocked electronics chain stores throughout Tokyo, so a trip to Akihabara usually isn't necesary unless you're scouting out new hardware or want something exotic.

The only problem with ECC is that they do not accept couples. I mean they do, but they do not promise to put couples together, in the same school or in the same apartment. It might be hard on our marriage if we lived in seperate houses...lol. But I will look into it again, this might not be the one I am thinking about... |
