Congratulations! When I got this bit of paper I took it to the Consulate in Houston (closest to me) and had it back in two days and was ready to go. They also told me at the Houston Consulate that they could not understand why it had taken so long! (5 months in my case)

I live in Atakoy, which is fairly close to you, so send me a message and let's try to get together when you arrive!

Cheers!

OMG are you a fellow Texan? I lived in San Antonio, TX for 16 years. Gosh, I miss San Antonio! I went to the Turkish Embassy yesterday, and the guy did it for me while I waited. I guess he could see the look of utter frustration. I did this at the NYC Embassy as that is my home base. I was surprised as I expected to have to return at least three days later, but the employee was so kind. I guess those puppy dog eyes work. he he

I told you to practice on that charm! Laughing

Congratulations Caterina. Welcome to Turkey and I wish you the best of luck here. I suggest you keep a journal. I wish I had!

Hi. Myself, I'm currently living in Turkey. Been staying here for a year on tourist visas, but got a job at Isik University, and now have to get legal. So, I went down and bought myself a 1 year residence permit. YOK told my employer that that's enough; they'll issue the work permit on the basis of my residence permit. I won't actually have a work visa in my passport, but as far as I can understand, everything should be cool... I'm legal to live here, and I'll have a work permit from YOK. Anyone done anything similar to this?

You are correct coffeespoonman, the exception to the rule is if the person is residing in Turkey with a valid residence permit, valid for at least 6 months. You then can apply for a work permit domestically within Turkey. However, you will be working illegally until the permit is issued and can pay additional fines and fees. (At least this is what I was told from the Turkish Embassy).

My employer however will not allow a person to work without a work visa until the work permit is issued. I feel like I'm becoming an expert now. he he

Yes, must admit I was raised in the Lone Star State. But it was many moons ago that I had the pleasure of full time residence in the "Great State of Texas" Yeeehaaaw.....but can pull out the Texas drawl with enough beers inside me....

Hope to meet you when you arrive. If you have problems with a place to stay until you find somewhere...send me a PMS and I will see what I can do to help you out in that department.

Cheers!

Well, I wasn't born there, but spent enough time to call it home (16 years)! I sure miss tex/mex food. Yummy!!!!

I went the University of the Incarnate Word and UT. Had alot of fun and met great people! I miss it so much. I don't really have an accent but if I'm around it it all comes back. ha ha My family is mostly from the great states of Georgia and Florida. You should hear their accents. he he The baby, sugar and honey is poured out of their mouths faster than I can say ya'll.

Thanks for the offer, I'll survive but it's very kind of you to offer.

Does any one know about the cell phone issue. I'm bringing mine with a letter from Tmobile as a receipt. Do I need anything else? Where do I register it?

Can you get a work visa from Ankara if you only have a BA in art? And no TEFL?

What is the process for this? Do you get a residence permit and then a work permit and then a work visa?

Can you work legally on a work permit if you have no work visa?

What in the heck is the difference between a work visa and a work permit?

Does your contract state you will be paid in a straight us dollar amount or a straight TYL amount?

Do they hire from Ireland ever?

thanks
