winter is approaching and soon we'll have to consider appropriate clothing.
so does anyone know where an honest teacher can buy US army parkas in this country, i'm thinking of army surplus shops, i know of the shop in warsaw on the main square but i'm down in the south, therefore any info of shops specifically in the malopolska region would be welcome.
this is my third winter in poland and i've found that parks are not only ideal for the minus 20 (take note newbies) and below temperatures but also because they're so damn cool............... and yet warm.
look forward to hearing from you

Hmmm, i checked the site
do i detect a note of sarcasm here.
the ll bean design department don't seem to have taken the camouflage aspect of parkas very seriously.
we're looking for reversible khaki/white designs. vintage 1950's through to post vietnam fish tale parkas
khaki alone will suffice
it's important to look your best in this teaching business.
anyway thanks for responding

Why not go native and buy a koziuch (leather coat)? You can get them in Nowy Targ as well as Zakopane, etc. Probably wouldn't cost more than a parka and these things are WARM. Of course you'd still need headgear and a scarf, but ... |

Actually no sarcasm. LL Bean sell excellent quality clothing at very good prices and everything is guaranteed for ever.
Did you not see the hunting section of the site? Not sure if they have parkas but they certainly have reversible down jacket: olive on one side and camo on the other. Cost about 210 PLN and will keep you warm at minus 20, mine does (altho' mine is not camo pattern). |

Hmm. If you want to camouflage yourself in Poland, you'd need shoes with square ends, a leather waistcoat with lots of pockets, a luridly coloured ski jacket, a baseball cap, a beer belly and a moustache. |

thanks chaps (and ladies?)
I'll check out the ll bean hunting department, haven't got any winter camo, but what i was hoping for was somewhere i could pick up "vintage" parkas, i collect them oddly enough and was hoping someone could direct me to a cheap source, i've seen a few ordinary middle aged folk wearing them around the country so there must be a sklep around here some place.

There's a huge secondhand clothing store in the middle of Katowice. At the end of winter ski outfits were going for 5 zloty. My info is circa 2003, so it may have moved--maybe a local could give you better directions. It's walking distance from the train station. |
