psssst... your Highness...
don't trust him...
He could be telling us the truth, but I've noted that he has a tendency to... umm... try to stir things up...

If dmb ever ask you to 'pick a windie..' be very worried.
And really Scot47! Yours was as bad a generalisation as any. OK, a good proportion are 'merchant bankers', but it's as bad as me saying 'all Scots have chips on their shoulders' or 'decent football managers, crap players'.

Why should I hide my feelings ? That is what this is about - not about which accent is objectively better !
And here is a hint - don't believe everything that people say or write ! |

The story I have heard from an American military collegue is that to an average Saudi, ( Kuwaiti, Emirati, etc) a South African is, well...an Amerikee. There are white people and black people there ( just like in the US) and they speak English ( just like in the US) and they look like Americans basically ( through Saudi eyes, that is) but they cost one third of what an American would cost. Put a South African in a classroom with Saudi students and they would not know the difference.
The only person knowing the difference is the one pocketing all the extra profits- i.e. the owner of the school. |

Most Saudis - including those with functional English - do not really know very much about the outside world. That makes them rather like the average Brit or average Gringo.
Their grasp of World Geography is not strong ! South Africa ? Is that near New Zealand ? |

| A Saudi taught English by a South African may be a little distraught when he discovers that Brits and Gringos cannot understand him. |

You make the mistake of thinking that the teacher is central. Languages are acquired or learned. The role of the teacher is marginal. |
