Hi everyone...
My boyfriend and I are in Santiago right now, living in Providencia. We have about a month until our TEFL course starts (we're doing it with TEFL Academy too), so if anyone who is already here or newly arrived would like to meet up, just send me a message! We'd love to get together and meet new people and find out as much as we can about this crazy TEFL market... |

It's easy to find work and my teaching degree will really help, easy to get a cell, and you can find free internet at a few places (wireless)
Then there's this whole work visa thing...sounds complicated and then I talked to someone who said most english teachers leave the country every three months instead of getting a visa.
end quote
There are some restaurants and cafes that have WiFi and you can also work in certain metro stations (I've seen people at Tobalaba and Moneda if I'm not mistaked)
As for the visas, if you aren't planning on staying too long going to a border town every 3 months is feasiable.
cheers

Hey all, I'm game to meet up on the 8 or 9th as well (I posted early in the discussion). I was in Santiago in Jan/Feb and there were definitely internet cafes (one on the main drag in Providencia). As for the work visa thing, if you get down there and make friends with someone who will write you an intent to hire letter (they never have to hire you) then you can get the work visa going. After you have a visa then you get a Chile ID card and then you can get a bank acct. I hear the whole process can take about 6 mos. Okay, I'm arriving on the 6th and looking forward to catching up with everyone. |

Hey
September 8th sounds like a good initiation date. I have been here a full four months so of course can be considered a local compared with all the newbies. I also happen to live very near bella vista and am up for a drink any time, so name the place and I'm sure to come.

So I just read one of these topics and it had multiple posts stating that there was nothing good about Santiago!! I'm days away from booking my flight (hopefully in a week I'll be there) but this makes me doubt my choice...I'm a city girl...I love big cities...so I'm just wondering why people have these bad impressions. |

If most people are staying at the Bellavista Hostel, we can easily meet there and then get drinks in Bellavista. There are tons of bars with outdoor seating and cheap beer (and pisco!). When would be a good time for most people to meet? |
