Right, I might be ridiculed, flamed and generally made a tit of with this question, but here goes..

Is it safe to send a scan of your passport photopage to potential employers?

I must confess that I've done this for years as part of the standard interwebby job application process.

Think about the potential for identity fraud, though. In this age of 'War of Terror' (note the apostrophes), what is there to stop someone acting as an employer to run off a fake passport with all your details on it?

Wouldn't like MI5 knocking on my door asking why 'my' passport had been found in some dark and dodgy part of the world..

I wouldn't worry about it too much. I have worked with teachers who have "lost" their passports for considerable amounts of money
Nothing happened apart from them buying drinks all night.
