Greetings All

I have been reading these forums for some months now. Trying to get an understanding for what life is really like teaching and living in KSA.

I have noticed that if something is bad it will always be reported, analysed and discussed. In comparison very little positive things are reported.

So I would like to see teachers post something positive about working and living in Saudi.

I am on my way to take up a teaching job..so I would like to see some of the benefits of working in KSA.

Any takers to this challenge?

Jonathan

The good things are numerous. Here is a list I've compiled.
cheap gas
no tax
gas is cheap
there is no tax
you won't pay much for gas
tax free pay
gas prices are low
you keep what you earn (no tax)
cheap to fill up your tank (cheap gas)
tax free salary
low low gas prices

I'm sure I've forgotten something though..

As a male I am happy that I do not have to work together with frantic feminists and menopausal witches.

BC, you forgot the cheap gas.

The great thing about teaching in Saudi Arabia is that if you aspire to become a poet, you have a great chance to accomplish just that.

If you want to save starving cats you can do that here.

If you want to convert to Islam you can also accomplish that.

If you like shopping there is a lot of malls and shops.

If you are a gay man you will never be lonely.

If you have no concept of time, and when someone describes you as a person who has lost touch with reality, who no longer carries the virtues of responsibility and accountability and your theme song is 'We don't need no education' then you are going to be in heaven here because your students share that same ideology!

If you believe that the Jews are behind every hurricane that has pounded the Southeastern U.S. coast line and every terrorist
attack that has been blamed on muslims then you you will love it here.

If you love conspiracy stories, welcome home.

Whatever you are, Saudi Arabia makes it worse.

On the other hand, if you are more-or-less self-contained, if you can be happy puttering around the house, reading and writing, cooking and cleaning, you can make it here.

That, and cheap gas.

Or men well into their mid-life crisis or closet sexists waiting for the chance to isolate the women in the work place.

RAWR!!HISS!!FTT!! It must be all the pre-menopausal hormones, and repressed feminism bottled up in me!

That was funny.

The cheap 'gas' is of no interest to me as a woman, but I agree with the following:

Quote:

On the other hand, if you are more-or-less self-contained, if you can be happy puttering around the house, reading and writing, cooking and cleaning, you can make it here.

Other positive features of life here:

- Low cost of living;
- Generally laid-back work environment;
- Very pleasant climate for half the year (half a year being better than none);
- Generally polite and charming, if often unmotivated and undisciplined, students;
- If you're lucky, a chance to work in a multinational work environment;
- If you're lucky, a chance to obtain an insight into one of the world's less-known, most important and most intriguing societies. Really.

It depends on what nationality and color you are! If you are a Us or a UK with blue or green eyes, your comments are true. BUT if your nationality is not US or Uk, you will be regared as SADIQ (people from INDIA, PHILIPINE, PAKISTAN, EGYPT, BANGALADESH, AND SO ON, EVEN IF THEY HOLD US PAASPORT THEY WILL BE TRAITED AS SECOND CLASS).

Do not forget that the majority of saudi people, especially the ignorant one, look with inferiority to the American and British.

have a nive day.

Interesting how endless the array of issues is that people on this forum have. Nice to hear positive comments from some contributors. I'm not from the UK nor from the US. My eyes are definitely not blue nor green. I had a good time in the old KSA. Dishonest employees? Sure. Lazy students? Sometimes. Interesting colleagues? Many! Crazies? Even more!! Experienced great Saudi hospitality in their homes and "rest houses"? Lots. When you have a few days off, head south for the mountains - Baha, Abha, Najran. Amazing. Totally different. I recommend Saudi, but if you want what it does not offer (which is where those issues come in), don't go, don't do it to yourself. To a large extent, although definitely not always, it is what YOU make if it.
