hi im wondering what the minimum a newbie coming to taiwan such as myself should expect from a contract in terms of:
-salary
-working hours
-accomidation
-overtime
-paid vacation
and anything else that maybe relevent which i am forgetting

Better to work by the hour. 600 per hour seems to be the basic foreigner rate. Don't take much less than that.
That's going to vary by school and what you are looking for.

Typically not offered in Taiwan teaching contracts unless in the boonies (in which case housing is so cheap in those areas that it isn't worth acceptingl). I'd say accept and seek assistance locating housing, but it's better for you if your housing isn't connected to your employer in any way. Taiwan doesn't have a tradition of outragious "key money" deposits like Japan and Korea.
Not an issue if you are paid paid hourly. Typically, there is no such thing as time and a half in Taiwan. It's a matter of if you want the extra work and pay or not. Only salaried jobs mention overtime at all.
Only done in salary job scenarios. Taiwan has relatively few stat holidays, so it's not a big perk in a job here. It won't be worth taking less per hour for a salary job just to have Chinese New Year and a couple days here and there paid. You're better off if you work for hourly pay, make more and budget for these times yourself. |
