Please help!

I've been offered a full time teaching job in Ho Chi Minh and am currently negotiating a salary with the school.
The job is in a kindergarten with working hours from 9 - 5 (40hr week). I've read other posts on this forum saying that teachers should expect $15/hr minimum.
Can I use this as a guideline? Should i expect to be paid $2000+ a month for this kind of job?? I am confused since the job is a mix of english lessons and childcare (in fact the actual english lessons are only 3hrs a day).
They are offering me just over $1000. Seems like a bit to me.

PS> I have a degree, tefl and 4 yrs teaching experience.

With your experience, you shouldn't be working in babysitting job. I also assume that $1000 mean monthly but not weekly which works about to be around $6.25/hour(not even minimum wage in the US). It's pretty laughable salary for babysitting and teaching kiddies. I doubt from $6.25/hour which they are offering is even negotiable to $15/hour. You should look else where.

With your qualifications and experience, you can definately do a lot better than $15/hour. Ask $20/hour and settle at $17.50/hour.

Good luck!

I agree. $1000 per month for those hours is an absolute insult, not only for those with your experience and qualifications. However, those hours are fairly sociable. From my experience here in Hanoi, getting evening and weekend work is a breeze (up to $20 per hour) but it really depends what you want out of it. If you really want to have your evenings and weekends free this is not for you. I know people here with jobs similar to your offer and they're on more like $1500-$1600 per month. Hope this helps and good luck!
