Leave them behind and buy new stuff when you get to your new location. Nice title to the thread. |

moving is not cheap.

Ask your students if they know anyone who has a van or a truck who is willing to move your stuff.
It will be a lot cheaper than a moving company. |

You don't tell us where you're coming from or where you're going, but this may be a useful link...

If none of your students have a vehicle, you can rent one. |

I just moved to Osaka. Just leave the big stuff, and put the heavy stuff in one bag and haul it to the nearest 7-11 and send it by kuroneko yamoto. It couldn`t be easier. |

OP: Please, for the love of all that's good: go back and edit the spelling on "MOVING" and "JAPAN."
Thank you!

Sorry for the spelling, it was early in the morning and I was typing while eating ext.
Thanks for the advice so far. I dont see how ditching 2 $200 futon couches and tables ext would be cheaper then shipping them?? That seems crazy, but Japan sort of seems to be crazy like that, so you couldbe right. |

How far are you moving? I recently moved and used a company called "Akabou". It was only 12,000 yen for a small truck and the driver helped me carry my stuff. However, I only moved a few kilometers. |

mtheta,
I used Akabou too. It was the cheapest I could find. Big moving companies are expensive. It might cost the same for you to just buy the stuff again. Calculate that, compare and then decide. |

You can send a three-person couch by KuroNeko Yamato's moving service, between Kansai and Kanto, for 15,000 yen. Big items like that (i.e. love seats, mattresses, etc) will cost 15,000.
Stuff that is slightly smaller can be sent through KuroNeko Yamato's delivery service. It's possible to send items as big as a dryer or washing machine this way, and it should only cost 2,000-3,000 yen (max) |
